Release Gen 1.2: Better road trips, built around the way drivers really travel

New Roads has taken another leap forward, with Gen 1.2 bringing a new layer of confidence, control and community to every drive.

From the beginning, New Roads was built to make road trips easier to plan, more rewarding to experience and more personal to the people behind the wheel. Not just the famous routes or the obvious roads, but the drives that stay with you afterwards: the unexpected viewpoint, the perfect stretch of tarmac, the quiet detour, the road that feels like it was made for your car.

With Gen 1.2, we have focused on the details that make road trips feel smoother from start to finish. This update is about more than route generation. It is about helping drivers save the journeys they love, share itineraries with friends, understand potential road issues before they arrive, find fuel or EV charging more easily and keep their car ready for the next escape.

Here is what is new.

Community functions

Great road trips are made to be remembered. With our new community functions, customers can now rate their drive, leave comments about the trip, upload photos and tell us about the best section of road they experienced.

This is an important step for New Roads. Over time, these insights will help build a richer, more useful database shaped by real drivers and real journeys. In the future, customers will be able to share selected trips with the New Roads community, while keeping their starting location private. That means you can help others discover brilliant roads without giving away your home address or personal details.

Share your itinerary

Some road trips are better shared.

Premium subscribers can now share itineraries with each other using the Share button in the top-left corner of the trip photos. This makes it easier to plan a drive with friends, send a route to another New Roads premium subscriber or build a shared itinerary before heading out together.

It is a simple update, but an important one. Driving is often personal, but the best journeys are often social too. From group drives to weekends away, itinerary sharing helps keep everyone on the same road.

My Benefits

Premium subscribers now have a dedicated My Benefits section within the app.

This is where customers can find benefits from New Roads’ trusted partners, helping to bring more value to the wider road trip experience. Over time, this section will become a home for carefully selected partner offers designed around the needs of drivers, travellers and people who value the journey as much as the destination.

Because great road trips are not only about the route. They are also about where you stop, what you experience and how well the whole journey fits together.

Road warnings shown on map

Every memorable drive needs a little confidence behind it.

If the suitability report highlights any roads that may be questionable, these will now appear clearly on the map with a warning symbol. Click the icon and New Roads will show you what to look out for, alongside a clickable Street View image so you can assess the road before you drive it.

This is especially useful for road trips involving narrow lanes, uneven surfaces, tight sections or routes that may not suit every vehicle. New Roads has always been built around the idea that your car matters. A route that works beautifully in one car may be less suitable in another.

With clearer road warnings, you can make more informed decisions before committing to a section of road.

Show all petrol and EV stations

Fuel stops and EV charging points can make or break a road trip, especially on longer routes or in unfamiliar places.

By clicking the orange button above the map, customers can now view petrol and EV stations along the route. This makes it easier to choose the right stop at the right point in the journey, rather than leaving it to chance.

Once you have found the station you want, you can add it to your route automatically using the ‘Add to route’ button. Whether you are driving a petrol car, an EV or planning around a mixed group, New Roads now gives you more visibility and control.

One-click GPX export

Many New Roads customers have asked for GPX files, and Gen 1.2 now delivers.

Under the Google Maps tab, customers can now export routes in one click, making it easier to import road trips into Garmin devices, in-car navigation systems or bike navigation systems.

For drivers and riders who prefer dedicated navigation tools, this is a significant upgrade. New Roads can help you create the route, then give you the flexibility to use it in the system that suits you best.

Digital garage update

Keeping track of your car can be a nightmare, especially when MOT, insurance, servicing and finance renewal dates all live in different places.

The updated Digital Garage brings these key dates together in one place. Customers can now manage MOT, insurance, servicing and finance renewal dates inside New Roads. If you switch on the reminder toggle, we will send you a reminder and details of trusted partners who may be able to help.

It is a practical update, but an important one. Better road trips start with a car that is ready to go.

Traffic calming measure alerts

Gen 1.2 also introduces traffic calming measure alerts.

If your route passes through traffic calming areas, you will now see them on the map with a blue TCM symbol. Click the icon and New Roads will show you the relevant alert, helping you understand what is coming before you arrive.

For many drivers, especially those in sports cars, classics, supercars or lower vehicles, this kind of detail matters. It is another way New Roads is becoming more aware of the real-world driving experience.

Built for better road trips, Gen 1.2 is a major step in making New Roads a more complete road trip planning companion.

It gives you more ways to save and filter the road trips you love. More confidence when a route needs closer attention. More control over fuel and EV charging stops. More flexibility with GPX export. More ways to share itineraries with friends. More value through premium partner benefits. And more support in keeping your car ready for the next drive.

New Roads was created to help drivers spend less time planning and more time driving. Gen 1.2 brings that promise closer than ever.

Your next road trip starts here.
